Index not being rebuilt

Reported by Paweł Gościcki | March 27th, 2010 @ 01:02 PM

In acts_as_ferret 0.4.3 the index had been rebuilding when there was no index and we called some ferret search. In 0.4.4 this is no longer the case. When there is no index, the following will not rebuild the index:

(assuming, of course, I have acts_as_ferret enabled in the Document model).

not automatically rebuilding the index is completely by intention.

The implicit rebuilding caused problems under certain circumstances and it was always only of limited use, since, with a large index, the user issuing the first search will experience a timeout whenever the indexing takes longer as the browser likes to wait for a response.

There are capistrano recipes delivered with aaf to rebuild the index with 'cap ferret:index:rebuild'.

    Fair enough.

Btw: Since it seems that you still maintain the acts_as_ferret gem, could you perhaps incorporate changes from other forks on github? Some of them seem sensible. Plus, I've seen the 0.4.5 tag. Could you do a proper rubyforge release if the version 0.4.5 is indeed out?
